In medieval times, England was occupied by Stone Age immigrants, when the stone henge was built, followed by the Bronze Age Celts from central Europe. The Romans invaded in AD43 and lost interest as Roman Empire declined. Local tribes took over after that. Over time there were wars with the Vikings and Norman invaders, among themselves, there were royal tiffs, power struggles, fights between Protestants and Catholics and all that drama. Then came the Industrial Revolution and by the time Queen Victoria took over, she was the leader of the imperial power that ruled most of the world. Britain went through two world wars and is one of the most industrialised countries in the world.
Geography
The British Isles lies on Western Europe, on the other side of the English Channel from France. UK is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and the Northern Ireland. The terrain has mostly rugged hills and low mountains.
Things to see and do
London is an enchanting and vibrant city. It is the main cultural entertainment centre of the world. Go to the theatres at West End, rivalled only by Broadway in New York. There are also operas, classical music and orchestras or nightclubs.
