Travel Advice For The Over 50s

The kids are grown, in college and beginning loves of their own. You’ve released your baby birds and have much time to travel and be with your sweetie of over thirty years. What a great way to spend a thirtieth wedding anniversary, or a “just because I love you” holiday for those in the middle years.

The surest way to get great travel advice: ask around. Many of the middle years peers belong to associations, leagues, clubs and guilds. Someone in that throng has to know of amazing travel plans made for them by their kids, gift from their kids and grandkids, if any, and they can inquire of the details not offered in the brochure of local customs, which waiter to ask for in the special café recommended to them and which little shop to browse in when done in the eatery.

Those over fifty need to get themselves checked out, health-wise, when traveling. While their bodies were meant to age up to and past the century mark, whatever airborne illnesses are easily contracted, they can get it and fall ill almost immediately. And, those over fifty can fall prey to crime if they’re not careful. Many American tourists have reported of being mugged, robbed, assaulted and victims of identity theft while traveling overseas, but many, many more still haven’t reported these cases out of embarrassment, fear, shame or resignation. Pre-seniors need to be aware, alert in their having a good time, but know that crime doesn’t take a vacation, even when travelers do.

Ok, I have a question. My

Ok, I have a question. My father refuses to fly anywhere; he's very "old-school". Is there any way, besides tying him to the airplane chair, to ease his fears about flying. I mean, my grandfather loves flying, but for some reason, it freaks my father out. He's never flown anywhere.

You can always drug him,

You can always drug him, this sounds odd, but even being an ex travel agent, I am not that keen on flying (my passengers always thought this was funny). Whenever I fly, I get the jitters, only because I am a control freak, and in my mind, I should be flying the plane. I will take a sleeping pill (or 1/2 for a short trip), to get over being nervous, for the international trip I took (knowing it would be a long flight DC to London) I actually stayed up the night before, took a sleeping pill when we left DC, had a drink on the plane, and was knocked out before we were an hour or so into the flight. The other reason, I am nervous on planes, I am a cigarette smoker, and you cant smoke on the plane. I know its odd to drug him, but the saying goes "If it works, don't fix it"! Good luck.

If you are over 50s

the best place where you can have rest and feel free is in the Capercailye House in Russia. This is the most magical place ever...come and check it...you won't regret...www.gluharevo.ru

I completely agree with

I completely agree with checking the health before you travel, for anyones age really. So many people leave things up to chance and luck, I could never do that. Would be too worried to be stuck somewhere with no local doctors/hospitals around. :)

I cant wait to travel when I

I cant wait to travel when I am older. I am going to be the semi grumpy person on the trip that is sarcastic. :) Seriously though, I would not want to be all stuck into a "seniors only" type of trip, alot of people of that age are traveling to try and be young again, not feel old.
