Packing List

I am going to start a
thread on what to pack for travel.
These are on Top of my list...

1) Extra cash stashed somewhere, just incase I get robbed
2) List of Emergency contact numbers
3) Embassy details of coutry of visit
4) travelers cheques
5) lots of snickers- you never know when you may need them

Packing List

I bring my pair of boots to every
country I go to. :-)

Packing List

A pair of good boots is good.
especially when you are hiking with a load.
or when you are stepping on rocks, u need stability

Other things to bring:
- mini-map of the country
- a good camera with spare batts.
- sunnies for places with lots of dust + snow

Keep in mind that it is best to carry what you need and not things that
you possibly need.
backpack optimum weight- 10-15 kg
more than often, i see backpackers carrying huge backpacks. They dont
need that many stuffs.

- A small sack and a backpack together, is just nice.

:-)

Packing List

Well...I'd definitly have to
reccommend Toilet Roll! Trust me...in a lot of places around the world
it's far to easy to get stuck somewhere without it...

And equally important, is a money belt. This is like a very thin
bum-bag (fanny-pack, for you Americans) that is worn UNDER the clothes. You
can safely keep money, travellers cheques, passports, tickets etc all in
a place that's very secure and discrete. Its the best way to store and
carry your important things

Please, please, please do NOT use an actual bum-bag. They are so easy
for theives to see and to remove. One snip and its gone!

Anyhow, if you're interested, check out
http://www.gogap.com/mygapyear/kit_large.shtml for a full list of what
I travelled with. Some of it was useful, some of it wasn't...

PS Like madmonk said, Packing light is the best thing to do!

Packing List

toilet roll? lol.

what is bum bag?

Packing List

madmonk wrote:- a
good camera with spare batts.A digital one,
preferably a bridge camera, with a light tripod for night shots.

Packing List

Have a small tube of sunscreen.
Some countries may have high UV rays, despite teh weather being cold and
everything.

I carry small useful accessories like sunscreen, pocketknife and a 100
dollar bill stashed in my boots. Lol.

Packing List

Be street smart and bring travelers' cheques every time you travel!

Packing List

Don't forget your passports and visa... Visa is a common document that one forgets... Always check with your travel agent or simply look out on the Internet... For example, after 9/11, Australia requires a visa even it is a transit point...:(

Packing List

yeah i can understand why.
how are the borders in US holding up now?
It's tough fight I must say.... :(

The most useful thing I think to have when travelling is a victorinox swiss army knife. I recommend getting the one with the high intensity LED in it, you would not believe how useful that can come in!

Packing List

swiss army knife?

They let you get on the plane with the knife?

Or do you keep it in your lugage and check it in?

For me,it would be the cameras and the camera's charger and the memory cards. And rolls of films if im bringing a film type cam.

I always end up packing

I always end up packing "heavy", I end up packing/unpacking about 3 times before I get what I end up taking on my trips (even road trips) - what a pain. Does anyone know of a site that list only the important things to take? I am a pack rat, and I need to get control of this, otherwise my world travel is going to suck. :(
