New York + Clearwater

hello all,
i am currently on my holiday in New York and thought i would write a travel log whilst i was here. If anyone has any tips on where to go and what to see please tell me.

Monday 31st October:
Stayed at the Heathrow Ramada Jarvis, very friendly staff and a nice clean hotel. Not as modern as the Gatwick one but still good. The food is really expensive so is the drink (£3.50 for a beer).

Tuesday 1st November:
checked in at Heathrow nice and early, flying with United Airlines.
Good flight, the food wasn't bad. The air hosts were all friendly and polite, good in flight entertainment and economy class has plenty of leg room.
Arrived at JFK, quick getting through customs ect. Prebooked Super Shuttle to take us to the hotel, not recomended the over crowded the minibus we had to lean foward in the back so the suitcases could hang over the back of the seat.
Got to Beekman hotel 1st ave / 49th street, very friendlyvery clean and very spacious suites.
Went for dinner at a small diner opposite the hotel, cheap but not excellent.
Had early night.

Wednesday 2nd
Had prebooked tickets(through viator) for the tour bus. Cost $49 for a 2 day pass covering all of new york, you can jump on and off where you like and they also have a night tour. Very good tour guides with lots of local knowledge, just remeber a jumper if you are sitting on the top deck. The architecture is amazing especially the Chrylser building. Stop off to see the trade center. It really puts things in a completely different light when you actually see it.
Went to the Rockerfeller center, the womens USA ice hockey team. Wnt to the top of the rock, 70 floors up, about 850ft, the view is incredible. I am told it is a better view than the emipre state building and yuo still get to the empire state building from outside this way. It cost £14 each, which was well worth it.
After we walked for 3 hours around 6-8th ave and 42nd -49th street. Rather nakerd now. Gipng to Grenwih village for diner and see a few jazz clubs.

New York + Clearwater

New York + Clearwater

New York + Clearwater

Hello all,
thought i better finish a bit more of the travelogue.

Haven't been around for ages due to work and also a little holiday to Euro Disney where i proposed to my now Fiance :D

Any way, i was going to write about Clearwater.

After New York (which was excellent) we went to Clearwater Florida.
We stayed at the Hilton Clearwater, lovely hotel. Our room was excellent, even though we didn't get the sea view rooms. Our room ovelooked the harbour, which was a better view i thought. We did have the chance to sit on the balcony and watch the sun set into the sea one night as my parents had done there usuall complaining bit as they were staying for 3 weeks and got moved to a sea view, so we stole the balcony one evening.

The hotel was clean and was also in the process of being renovated, but it didn't cause any problems. It was a very popular place for weddings (trying to get Becky, the other half, to go somewhere like that for the wedding but she is having none of it) and also business meetings.

2 nice pools and a hot tub, right on the beach, with a fairly cheap bar.

It was also only a couple of minutes walk from the pier and that was a good place to watch for dolphins :D There where some really good places to eat in Clearwater, we went to the same place for breakfast most days, a little family run cafe that done a full american breafast for about $4. There is plenty of choice for the evenings, including boat trip dinners.

We rented 3 cars so that we could all travel ( their was 9 of us in all, my sister and her family drove accross after a week in Disney, my parents cam with us from NY, but then went on to Chicago). We drove to Tampa Springs which was fantastic, excellent Greek cooking, cheap boat trips with plenty of dolphins, my 2 half Greek neices loved it and it reminded me of living in Greece.

We got some great deals out shopping at the malls and outlet shops.

Our favourite place we found for diner was "smokey bones" they do the best ribs in smokey sauce.

Towards the end of the holiday we went to Busch Gardens, this was really good fun and there was almost no ques for anything. If you go i advise you to buy a refilable drink holder, it costs about $5 and you can fill it up for about $1 a go.
Then came the best bit of all Discovery Cove, i could live at this place given half a chance. They have got a a huge swimming area that is full of marine life, rays, angel fish, clown fish and loads more. Then we got to swim with the dolphins, you go in groups of about 5 and you get to actually hold on to them and they pull you along, it was one of those things that you remember for ever.

Well that was pretty much it in America, hopefully i will go back again this year, i might have a look for a house out there if the dollay gets any weaker

I enjoyed the holiday so

I enjoyed the holiday so much that when i went back this time i brought a villa just outside Clearwater.
