I'm interested in travelling to Africa though know very little about the continent as a whole. I'm familiar with destinations such as South Africa, though not so much so northern and central Africa.
What countries are worth visiting and what is there to see? I'm keen on taking a safari or two, though I would like to see as much as I can over the course of a several week trip. Any advice on dangers or required vaccinations is also welcome.
Africa ideas and info
Tanzania is definitely not to be missed. Home of Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro. If you are in reasonable health you can walk to the top of this amazing mountain in around 5-6 days, with good, safe lodges all the way up. Tanzania also boasts the Serengeti National Park (the best place in Africa for a safari), and the incredibly beautiful Island of Zanzibar. All of these places have good air links.
Zambia is another great destination, home to the wonderful town of Livingstone, and Victoria Falls.
In South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal (the Zulu Kingdom) is fantastic, and so is The Garden Route (very safe for tourists, but not cheap).
Botswana is also one of the safest and easiest places to travel (well worth combining with a trip to Victoria Falls in Zambia).
Ethiopia is just opening up again, and is very keen to promote tourism.
