monuments

What are the monuments, statues, and formations that have become symbols and make classic photo-ops?

I wouldn't really know where

I wouldn't really know where to start - there are just so many buildings, monuments and statues that have become an icon it's unbelievable.

Having said that, you've got the likes of The Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, Sydney Opera House, Arc De Triumph, Nelson's Column, Leaning Tower of Pisa... the list really is endless, and they are just a handful of the popular "tourist" ones.

Monuments - How long is a piece of string kind of question

I think you can find something in every major city plus more.

Here are a few more to add to DeepBlue's suggestions -

Pyramids of Egypt, Taj Mahal, Mount Rushmore, San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, Seattle's Space Needle, The Hermitage in St P, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur, Christ Redeemer in Rio, Machu Pichu, Anchor Wat, Wrigley Field, The Pyramid Building in San Francisco, Alcatraz, Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto, The Colosseum in Rome, Basilica of St Peter's in Rome, Statue of David, Graceland in Memphis, the list really is endless and what is iconic to one person might not be to another.

Good luck in your hunt ;)

Some really good suggestions

Some really good suggestions there from both DeepBlue and ewellington - The Pyramids and Valley of the Kings are high on my list of places to see before I die, though it is unfortunate that travel to Egypt isn't particularly cheap and most tours require an armoured convoy because of the unrest.

The Colosseum in Rome is particularly spectacular - Again, if you like your monuments and ancient wonders then this is another one not to be missed.

I've been to the Colosseum

I've been to the Colosseum and I have to say that it is one of the most amazing places I have ever visited. If you are going to see the Colosseum, then also walk down into the Roman Forum. All the ruins of the temples and buildings. I visited a few years ago and the sites were amazing. I have never seen anything like it. I'd love to go again.

Pyramids

I've been to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It's quite funny to stand there and see lots of people trying to get their photo taken looking like they are holding it up. I'm glad to say I wasn't one of them.

When I think of monuments, the first thing that comes to my mind are the Pyramids. I love anything Eygyptian related. Though I havn't been lucky enough to visit them yet.

I would think any of the

I would think any of the ancient ruins in Greece and Rome would be breathtaking. I would also want to see Ayers Rock (Uluru) in person, as well as the temples and pyramids in Egypt.

You mentioned Uluru - I've

You mentioned Uluru - I've seen people take shots of it from a distance so that it looks like the person standing in front of it was the same height as the Rock itself. I guess that's about the same thing as trying to appear to be holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It's all in perspective.

Are we talking in the US or

Are we talking in the US or anywhere in the world? There are so many things I would love to shoot, just take an entire vacation to travel to different cities around the world. I have found through study that the most intriguing monuments (to me) are those with religious/spiritual back rounds. :)
