Recommended Places to Visit in Italy?

Italy is near the top of my list of destinations I'd like to visit in the near future, so I'm on the lookout for recommendations on where to stay, what there is to do and what not to miss. I particularly enjoy the cultural and historical aspects, so my primary concern is to go somewhere with history and plenty of things to see - monuments, galleries, museums, historical buildings, churches, that sort of thing.

I also enjoy food, though I've been told that wherever I go in Italy, I will be well catered for in that department.

So, where should I head and what should I do?

great place in Roma

If you do end up going to Roma, you absolutely have to stay at the Hotel San Anselmo. It is perfectly located for the historical stuff if you are a history junkie (like myself). But, it is also right near 1,0000 great places to get real, traditional Italian food. Buon Appetite!

I'd reccomend San Remo,

I'd reccomend San Remo, Milano and Modena. San remo is famous for its music festival , Milano for its fashion Industry and Modena for its automobiles esp Ferrari.

Florence Day + Night

I spent a few days in Italy over the summer on a two week Contiki tour... my favorite stop on the whole tour was definitely Florence. I spent most of the day checking out the Uffizi gallery which was absolutely incredible! At night our tour manager booked the VIP room of a club called Space for everyone in our group (around 40 people) and we partied until about 4 or 5am :-) Definitely an incredible experience... go check it out!
