Native American Pow Wows

We like to travel around to the different Pow Wows if we can find them relatively close by. We've travelled to some a couple of states away, but try to stay pretty close to home.

Does anyone else go to Pow Wows? They're quite enjoyable, and generally a good, family activity, as well as educational.

I've been to one or two, but

I've been to one or two, but I'm sure they were only local ones. I understand the ones in Oklahoma are really something. I know there are Powwows all around the US, I think in almost every state, and in almost every month of the year.

Honestly I didn't know that

Honestly I didn't know that this was something that you could do. I guess I just thought it was a way of life for them, and that it wouldn't have turned into a tourist attraction.

I didn't know that the

I didn't know that the public could attend these either. I've never been, but it seems weird to me that they open up a very personal part of their culture to the public. It's great that they do, because it encourages people to educated themselves about the culture.

It seems very strange to me

It seems very strange to me that somebody can actually sit-in on a pow wow, just because it seems like something that would be very personal to the Native Americans, not something that they would want to share. Then again, I guess they think it's a good idea to educate others about their lifestyles.
