often I am faced with the choice of getting a tour package or travel by myself. These days, tour packages can save a fair bit of money, especially if I book my ticket with accomodation, and so on..
on the other hand, I would love to self travel..
What is your opinion on this? To get a tour package or not?
dude thats what HK is about anyways. Shopping, making money, shopping and more shopping!! lol.
seriously I only eat and shop in HK.
other than that, I find there's nothing really special in there.
Lots of movie filming spots in HK, you get to see HK celebrities in action everywhere you go...!! 8)

Drop by Mongkok and you can have a go at the jade market, bird market and fish market...(not really shopping but watch the locals, it fun..:))
Downtown, drop yourself along Central (I think) and watch the noon day gun firing...
The Peak is a nice place at night...
All the above places are not covered under the tour packages... I traveled myself...:(
You may wish to look around at different tour companies, some market for the shopping, some for semi freedom and you are not stuck with an operator the entire time. Contiki used to do the semi tour I talked about, where each location they would take you (from town to town), but you were free to do as you wish, pending you are back in time before they roll on to the next location.

My opinion: NOT!!
Tour packages is good if you are short of time but want to cover a lot of areas. I took one tour package to Hong Kong and that's it... The tour operators only concentrated on tourist spots and shopping shopping shopping... I gather that tour guides make a commission for every sale that they bring in... :evil:
