I need ideas

I know most people go to the "touristy" places for vacation quite often - Disneyland, Disneyworld, Six Flags, etc. We're short on funds this year, and would really like to go someplace fun for the kids. What are some cheaper alternatives? We live in Alabama.

Montgomery, Alabama has Old

Montgomery, Alabama has Old Alabama Town which would be very educational, in my opinion.

Also, upon doing some research, it looks like hiking is a favorite pastime in Alabama. Hiking is not only fun, it's also healthy and gets the kids off the couch. I've heard it's pretty beautiful there, so hiking is probably a great way to pass some time there.

You can always try going to

You can always try going to a smaller theme park, one that is not nearly as advertised as the larger ones. Ive only been in the SE for afew years, so I have yet to check up on this, but most people here are laid back and relaxed, so I think a smaller park would suit you and your funds quite nice!

It would also change things

It would also change things depending on the age of the children. Young tots of course could not hike, so perhaps if you could tell us this we could help a little better. Also, how long are you looking to spend away?

I like to find local

I like to find local historical places in the state I reside in. I have done this a couple of times, and never have I been bored with the results. I suggest a couple of minutes looking at your state history, the states that surround you, then pick. Some are alot more interesting than many think!
