Gold Mining in California

My husband likes to do recreational prospecting, and since there was the Gold Rush in the 1860s, there's obviously been some gold found in California. So, where would a person go if they were making a trip to California, and wanted to try their hand at gold prospecting?

Prospecting sounds like a very interesting hobby. It doesn't exactly sound like my niche, but sounds fun if you're into it.

Yes the gold is there but the mines are not open for visitors every time. There is a specific period in the year when the mine is set for display so make sure you visit at the right time.

It really sounds like a wonderfully different way to spend your vacation. I have never been fond of the idea of a holiday that made you do a lot of work, but this sounds like fun.
