Day Trips In South Central PA

I have limited resources as far as travel is concerned, and given that I have a young child I do not want to drive far. But I would like to take her on a few day trips this summer.

Any suggestions for things to do in South Central PA would be appreciated.

Get a good map first! I know

Get a good map first! I know your kiddo is abit young, but you can always check out some American Civil War history sites (Gettysburg). SC Pa. has alot of beautiful countryside, you should look for close parks to visit (or zoos) with your little one (that is enjoyed by many, and for adults quite relaxing). My family from MD would visit the distant family in PA when I was a child, so it was more of a 'relaxing getaway' for us all. :)

This would be more of a

This would be more of a weekend trip, but for some reason it popped into my head this evening and I just had to share it with you. Pocono Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania!

I know your child is still a little one, but there are afew things you can still do. :) Did a little bit of research and found afew things you might enjoy if you are ever in the need for weekend getaway from the city/town life.

Carriage Rides, Hot Air Ballooning *possible* Dorflinger - Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary (this would be fun for a little one) There are many parks and natural forest to hike, though I think hiking is probably afew years off. :) Bear Mountain Butterflies has an indoor butterfly sanctuary as well. :)

And of course, you can teach your little one how to ski (come on every toddler should know how). Good luck in your search, this was just a thought.

Sounds like some wonderful

Sounds like some wonderful things to do there, but seriously, a toddler skiing? How early are lessons available? Isn't it dangerous for a little one?

I don't think a toddler

I don't think a toddler skiing would be that much hassle (how old), I know they have bunny slopes - my parents took me when I was smaller, but I think I was about 4-5 years old then. You could always take the little one out to Hershey, PA and check out the chocolate factory and the amusement area! They have many exciting, (and many free of charge) things to do, I would suggest that, I think, before skiing, depending also on the age of the child. :)

I wonder if she took any of

I wonder if she took any of the trips mentioned so far! :) Have you just considered getting a map and driving around in circles for abit? That sounds odd I know, but sometimes I have found the most interesting things this way, worth a shot! :)

I would think a nice trip to

I would think a nice trip to a children's park, a zoo trip and maybe a movie after would be a nice time out. :) Its not like you have to spoil the child or anything, just have them entertained and get them a little education too. ;)

I think a zoo is the best

I think a zoo is the best idea that I have read so far in this thread. Combining education with the wonderment that children have for animals. Beautiful.

A movie maybe would be hard as young kids often don't like the loud noises in a theatre.
