Children in Las Vegas?

Hi everybody. I am wondering what your opinions are on taking children to Las Vegas.

Are there activities in Las Vegas that are appropriate for children, or are most activities adult-oriented?

The children in questions are age 6, 10, and 14.

Thank you in advance for your help!

There are many places in Las

There are many places in Las Vegas that are appropriate for children, but I don't recommend that you take children if you are solely interested in gambling or visiting casinos/bars.
The Star Trek exhibit in LV is interesting and exciting, even if you aren't a "trekkie".
Also, there are lots of arcades, and animal exhibits. It's all a matter of what you're interested in!

I've often wondered that,

I've often wondered that, myself. My husband and I would like to go out to the area to do some recreational prospecting, but would like to stop at Las Vegas to say we've been there. We've hesitated because we didn't want to take our kids.

I'm definitely a "Trekkie," so we'd have to go to the Star Trek exhibit. Thanks for the information.

Thanks for that information.

Thanks for that information. While we're on the subject, are there any of the well-known hotels right on the strip that are especially kid-friendly? I'm looking for a hotel for this summer, I heard that I should book early, but I just don't know where to check out.

Yeah at most of the resorts

Yeah at most of the resorts and hotels ive gone to with my family, my childeren run in that age group, have many good attractions and fun time wasters for them. The front desk at most can give you great info too

I am going to Las Vegas for

I am going to Las Vegas for my honeymoon, so I've done a little bit of research on the hotels on the main strip. I know that Excalibur is family friendly, and they even have a show there that reminds me of Medieval Times (the dinner, jousting show). I believe that Treasure Island may be a good place for children as well.

I think that one of the

I think that one of the hotels has a Star Trek theme or something. I'd like to go see that. I'd also to go to the Excaliber. I'd love to see some jousting. Of course, I hope it's not TOO close to the dinner tables. ;)

The Hilton hotel isn't on

The Hilton hotel isn't on the main strip, but it's the one with the Star Trek attraction. You'll think I'm joking, but the men's bathrooms at the Star Trek exhibit are absolutely ... amazing. The women's bathrooms, not so much. The urinals do a "urinalysis" and talk to you when you use their facilities, apparantly. Too bad the girl's restrooms don't get equal treatment.

Anyway, sorry for getting off topic, but I think the Star Trek experience is definitely worth checking out for the kids.

There's also an M&M store that I believe has a lot of kid-themed stuff that they might like.

Thanks Yaya, you were really

Thanks Yaya, you were really helpful. It seems that there is a lot more in Las Vegas for kids than I originally thought. I'm glad that my kids will not be confined to a hotel room for a weekend.

Now, which hotel do you think is most suitable for children? I heard that Excalibur is appropriate, but is that the only one? I just want some options open.

Excalibur is definitely the

Excalibur is definitely the hotel for kids, as I've learned through experience. I would definitely stay there. It's at the end of the strip that is geared more towards families, and that hotel itself is probably the best for children. I think that Excalibur is your best bet.

There are so many

There are so many opportunities for children in Las Vegas.

1. Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay - can be pricey, but a great experience; very impressive
2. Arcades at Excalibur and New York, New York
3. FAO Schwarz toy store in Ceasar's - so much to offer for being a toy store, great experience, even if you aren't going to buy anything
4. Rollercoaster at New York, New York for the older kids
5. Fountain show at the Bellagio

I hope that these suggestions are helpful. If I can think of anymore, I'll be sure to come back and list them.

You've got lots of answers

You've got lots of answers already, but I just wanted to add that we don't gamble. For that reason EVERY trip we have made to Vegas has been for none gambling things, and we have had a wonderful time, always. There really is so much to do once you are there, the gambling is just what people expect.

I agree, although most

I agree, although most people do go to Vegas to gamble. Instead of gambling, I would much rather go to the animal exhibits or go see a show. I find cultural things much more satisfying than gambling - especially because I have such bad luck!

Yeah, there is nothing worse

Yeah, there is nothing worse than losing all your loot to spoil a vacation! I could never see the point to it really-I'm sure that some people dig the thrill of gambling, but it just never had a buzz to me.

Yeah it would definitely

Yeah it would definitely spoil my vacation if I lost all my money gambling! I'm glad I started this thread, because I never thought of Las Vegas as a family place before. A lot of good information can be obtained from this thread. :)

I can't wait to be headed

I can't wait to be headed there in July. Does anybody know if The Venetian usually has a lot of children staying there? That's where I plan on staying for my honeymoon in July, and I just want to have a place where there won't be many disruptions. :)
