Chicago - Any tips for the Windy City ?

Hi there,

Does anyone have tips for Chicago ?

I am planning a trip to see my cousin and I haven't seen her since both went our separate ways from our Eastern European village over 40 years ago. My cousin, she went to Chicago and I went to Australia.

I have heard The John Hancock building has better views than Sears Towers ?
Is that true ?

What are the not to miss things in Chicago ?

Here are a few things that are not to be missed in Chicago. As a native of almost 25 years, it never ceases to amaze me!

The Sears Tower; the tallest building in the United States; there are daily SkyDeck tours that take you all the way up to the top, where you can see the entire metro area. The shopping district is great, and there are wonderfull Off-Broadway shows on Randolph Street to go see that are right outside the hotels. Pizzeria Uno, The Cheesecake Factory, and Maggiano's Little Italy are great restaurants, and if you take the train further North, you run into the nightlife district that is second to none...there's something out there for everyone. The Lincoln Park Zoo is run by the Chicago Park District, has a farm, and is totally FREE! It is honestly one of my favorite attractions, since I a an animal lover. The Michigan Avenue shopping district between Ohio and Pearson streets (including our Magnificent historic Water Tower Place) is great but bring a lot of spending cash. There are a wealth of tours for the historic, educational, and there's even a haunted tour. The Field Museum of Natural History is free on Tuesdays, and The Museum of Science and Industry is free on Thursdays. The Chicago Cultural Center (Michigan and Randolph) is free every day unless there's a show going on, and the Art Institute Museum is also free on Tuesdays. It's your best bet to come during the summer when all the festivals are going on like the Taste of Chicago, the Jazz and Blues Festival, and the Gospel Music Festival. It is truly a sight to see.

I know this helped!!!!

I used to live in Chicago

I used to live in Chicago Heights, which is a suburb not TOO far away, but that was while I was a child. Some of the places we went when I was a kid was the John G. Shedd Aquarium, the Brookfield Zoo, and the Museum of Science and Industry. We also went to Navy Pier.

Yes the city is windy.

If you are visiting Chicago for the first time then carry some greasy body lotions along with you and whatever may be the weather try wearing full clothes as the wind may crack your skin.

Lotion and a good jacket are

Lotion and a good jacket are nice tips! Some places to check out if you have the time: the John Hancock Observatory or the Amazing Chicago Funhouse Maze. My friend doesn't live far from the city and told me the funhouse is a must. Personally, when I get the time something I have to see is the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio (I am a huge fan of anything architectural). I am not sure of the height of the Sears Tower off hand, but the Hancock O. is past the 90th floor of the John Hancock Building, and you can see about 3 or 4 states from there if I am not mistaking. :)
