London

I'm trying to cost a visit to London but really don't know where to start. I'm on a limited budget and prices for hotels etc in the city are very expensive. Does anyone know any areas that are nice to stay a little out of the city but where commuting wont take too long?

I've been to London on art visits so I know how to get around the city but what would you say are the best sights to see?

London - Places to stay

Hey Angel Eyes,

There is a Easy Hotel in South Kensington on Lexham Gardens which isn't very far for the centre of London. Very close in fact. Otherwise you can have a look at a hotel in Putney. There is a Holiday Inn or a similar hotel that is right next to Putney Bridge Station. A close walk to the overland and lots of buses that stop there aswell.

The hop on hop off bus tour is ideal as it will stop by all the main tourist spots. It is also valid for 24hours.

There are 2 bus companies that do the hop on hop off tour -

There are many different things to see in London. It also depends on what you like doing.

There are a number of different markets that you can go to if you are into that.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions. Well, I've done the art galleries but that about it. The main thing I want to do is see the sights but my other half wants to see the Science museum or something similar. We'll probably be going for a long weekend so wont have lots of time. What are the major sites in the city?

Following are the best places to visit in London.

London Eye (Millenium Wheel)
Houses Of Parliament
Tower of London
Buckingham Palace
If you see all of above sites then you r tour will be a successfull trip.

If you just want a small

If you just want a small town to visit, Hitchin is perfect. Husband and I went there for a week, everything in town is accessible by foot (and we don't walk much, so that was nice), there are cute shops, many pubs and night life is a good size for being a small town. :)

I would check some hostels

I would check some hostels first, if its a quick trip and you are not taking much its all good. If you need a hotel, there are many places online that will show you avalibility and try to match up the area of town you want to be in also. You could also check into looking up some "stay with my family while you vacation" type thing, not sure whats thats called though if its not a work or school aboard deal. Might be worth checking into. :)

I would also recommend that

I would also recommend that you look into bed and breakfasts rather than large chain hotels. The former tends to be cheaper, has a meal included of course, and the places have far more character. They are not custom built buildings, rather old buildings that have been adapted and I have stayed in B&Bs as old as three hundred years.

I would try to save what you

I would try to save what you can, research a ton, and try to go off season (cheapest way I know many travel now). :)

Honestly London doesn't

Honestly London doesn't really have an off season. There are things to do year round, and the weather never really gets bad enough to put people off, or good enough to attract people. There is occasional snow and lots of rain, but it rains year round.

All you really need to avoid are the school holidays.
