Travelling around Europe

Hi, My partner and I are planning a 3 week trip in Europe around the summer months. We have already decided on visiting hungary, croatia, czech republic, italy and holland. My partner is really interested in food and foreign cuisine and would love to visit france and Spain, but I dont think we will have enough time to go everywhere and think we should visit these countries another time. Could anyone recommend a possible itinerary with recommended length of stays. We are also deciding which would be the best mode of transport to use. We have looked at train passes (euro rail i think its called) but not sure if they are value for money. We have also though about travelling by car, not renting though, taking our own. Does anyone have any experience of this? Can anyone also advise a budget for this trip? As this will be the only holiday we will have this year we are hoping not to have to stay in hostels, but not looking to be living in luxury either. Sorry if i am not being specific enoough, if more information is needed just ask. Thanks in advance for any comments

just let me know from where you would to go to your desired destinations, I would suggest you another destination in your list, that is Amsterdam or Venice.
