Swimming with dolphins

I always see on television these people going on vacations and swimming with dolphins. Can you actually do this, and how expensive is it? Has anybody here ever done it?

I love dolphins, and would absolutely love to try this out. What are your experiences with it?

I have never done this, but

I have never done this, but I would love to. Dolphins are about as close as you can get to nature. I just watched a show the other day, and I must state - if I ever get the chance to do this, I will be doing so in Oz (they have some of the most incredible waters around). Not sure on pricing, but I think if I could do this, paying a little extra would be the last thing I'm concerned with (just make sure no sharks are around)! :)

I think it is possible in

I think it is possible in water zoos. I have seen on lonely planet that the people can swim with the dolphins there in pools. But i dunno if dolphins in the open waters can be safe to swim with.

I know this can be done on

I know this can be done on certain tours (not the kind I have booked, more like the larger tour company's that are not discounted). The show I watched the other day was actually American Chopper and they were in Oz, so I was curious. I took a peek around afew search engines and it seems that Sea World does something of this nature. I will have to look into it as we may end up planning a trip to visit husbands sister in Cali for a wedding. :)

A friend of mine did it when

A friend of mine did it when he was about 14 years old. His mother took him on an expensive trip to Florida, of which that was a part. Other than that I know that a lot of places do it for sick kids, as part of therapy and so on.

I would love to go swimming

I would love to go swimming with dolphins. What are some of the best places to do this? I have heard that you can swim with dolphins in both Hawaii and Florida. Which are the best places, in your opinion?
